- Women make up half the world’s population, yet they face significant barriers to education, healthcare, and economic opportunity.
- Gender equality is not just a normal imperative, it’s smart economics. When women can participate fully in society, economics grow stronger.
Women’s Empowerment
Empowering women to transform communities
Around the world, millions of women and girls face discrimination and inequality, denied opportunity and basic human rights simply because of their gender. This limits their potential, but also weakens entire communities and hinders global progress. Northbound believes in a world where women are empowered and equal, where families are stronger, communities are more vibrant, and the world is more just and prosperous for all.
Our Work
Why Gender Equality Matters
Meet Bernadette
This is Bernadette. She graduated from the MAP (mother against poverty) program in Neema vilage. She also had a dream about playing soccer before we came to visit her.
Our Involvement
We work around the globe to empower women and girls through a variety of programs, including:
- Education: We support girls’ education initiatives that break down barriers and help girls reach their full potential.
- Economic Empowerment: We provide women with access to training, resources and markets to help them build businesses and support their families.
- Healthcare: We advocate for improved access to healthcare for women and girls.
- Maternal Care: We support womens’ access to maternal health care, and aid single and struggling mothers with childcare access and maternal support.
Community Partners
Furaha Field at Neema Village
Meaning “joy” in Swahili, the goal for Furaha Field is to create more than just a place to play soccer. It is about providing a sanctuary where children can enjoy their childhood safely, away from the threats that plague unsupervised areas. By establishing structured, supervised playtimes, we ensure that girls under the age of 16 have five hours per week exclusively for them, and adult women have an additional five hours.
Community Partners
Chosen Children of Promise
Chosen Children of Promise (CCP) is a beacon of hope in the heart of Nairobi’s slums. Dedicated to supporting and nurturing orphaned and vulnerable children, CCP works with guardians—often aunts or extended family members, typically single women—helping them provide safe and loving homes. Through education, sponsorship programs, and spiritual guidance, CCP empowers these children to break the cycle of poverty and build brighter futures. CCP’s commitment to their community extends beyond the children, positively impacting families and the neighborhood as a whole.
