Community Partner
Akonda Ministries
Founded in 2018 by Nathan and Justie Wingfield, Akonda Ministries is a grassroots organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty in Malawi by empowering its people. The organization emerged from their deep bond with the Malawian community formed during their child’s adoption. Inspired by the resilience and warmth of the locals, they settled in Malawi and committed to developing sustainable solutions to local challenges.
How We
Work Together
Akonda Ministries emphasizes empowerment over mere aid, believing that lasting change arises from equipping individuals with the tools and knowledge needed to improve their lives. Their holistic approach lays a foundation for long-term, transformational change.
Northbound Foundation comes alongside our on-the-field partners to support them with vision, strategy, and resources to empower their local community. We realize the importance of cultural knowledge, strong relational equity and long term solutions. Working together with partners that align with these values maximizes our impact.
Impact of
Our Collaboration
Local Empowerment: We build trusting relationships to seek to understand the true needs of a community. After listening and understanding, we empower locals to be part of the change they want to see in their communities.
Quick Response: Having local in the field partners like Akonda, allows us to know the immediate needs of a community. When a crisis hits, having boots on the ground enables quick and effective action.
Stakeholder Management: The relationships built within the community and government in Malawi allow for greater success of projects. The work of Akonda builds bridges that bring together global NGOs and local governments.
Community Transformation: The long term vision is to empower communities to be self-sustaining. Our work equips people to break the cycle of poverty and transform their lives and communities.
